FROM THE COMMANDER:
Hello members of post 199!
As always, we’ve been busy here On the Hill. First off we donated $1,000 to School District #7 to help in any way they need for paying for lunches or fixing up classrooms. The Auxiliary felt this was a good cause and also donated $500. Thanks to Eve, Deb, and Peg for championing this cause.
Congratulations to Ron Swaim on your 50th anniversary as a legion member, Commander, and District Commander. To further celebrate Ron’s dedication to the legion we asked him to be the Grand Marshal of the Veteran’s Day parade, and he graciously accepted. Speaking of the Veteran’s Day parade, we have extended the route this year from Eden Church to Lincoln Middle School. We are starting the parade at 3pm as to make it more family friendly. We have had a huge interest and it is shaping up to be our biggest ever. Saturday November 11th: hope to see you there and at the post afterwards for the Shriners band and chili and dogs!!
We are bringing back the New Years Eve party! Ruby Leigh will headline the event there will be an opening act also. Ruby recently had her TV debut on the show “The Voice”, with a four chair turn around. We will be serving a fabulous sit-down dinner. Tickets are $75 and will be available in the lounge. Her recent shows have been selling out fast so get your tickets early.
I have named Marty Moore as our new adjutant and am looking forward to working with him.
All is well here, but please don’t take my word for it, come in and see for yourself. The meeting hall is being updated and painted. We have over 50 whiskeys available in the bar. The gaming room is doing great and the golf course has recently been aerated and the greens look better than they have in years. We have three new fire pits to keep the chill away on the patio, donated by Mick and Deb Ahrens, and Senior Vice Commander Doug Thompson.
Please come out and support the Veterans with Bingo on Monday, Tacos on Tuesday, Fried Chicken on Thursday, and Fish on Fridays. Also our beautiful nine hole golf course is open 7 days a week.
The more we do means the more we can do for Veterans and our community. If you have any questions, comments, free time, or donations please feel free to get in touch with me and as always thank you for allowing me to serve.
Thank you! -Your commander- Wes Sterling
